iLawyer.com Signs Agreement with the American Bar Association to Develop National Network of Lawyer Referral and Information Services.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - - August 4, 2000 - - iLawyer announces an agreement with the American Bar Association to develop an Internet-based network of bar association-sponsored lawyer referral and information services that have met the ABA's Minimum Standards for Lawyer Referral. "iLawyer.com will host a national online network of bar-sponsored LRIS offices," said John E. Busch, the ABA's chair of the standing committee. "This new technology will make those offices more efficient for both clients and participating lawyers, and will also help LRIS offices in developing their low fee programs and in their work with local pro bono programs."

iLawyer's agreement with the American Bar Association is an effort to ensure that consumers looking for legal representation on the Internet find lawyers meeting the highest level of professionalism and competency possible. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the ABA is one of the largest sources of legal information for the general public and one of the most respected legal organizations in the country. One of the ABA's foremost concerns is the relationship a client forms with an attorney. Sheree Swetin, Staff Director for the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyer Referral and Information Services, stated, "We believe this program will provide an important public service to people seeking a lawyer." Swetin also said, "Meeting ABA Standards means that the client will receive a lawyer that meets specific experience requirements, carries malpractice insurance, and is a member in good standing of the bar association."

iLawyer stands behind the high standards set by the ABA for Lawyer Referral and Information Services, believing that the ABA Standards help iLawyer and iLawyer's participating bar associations provide services to its customers more comprehensive that can be provided by iLawyer competitors. "It's really providing people with the best of both worlds: they get the 24/7 convenience of the Internet and the quality of local service by real people that only Bar Associations can provide." Slote said. "We insist that affiliated bar associations be approved by the ABA in order to assure high quality on a national basis," Slote said, noting that it is "a great honor to work with the American Bar Association."
