Chuck Finney has been with the Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit of the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office for sixteen years. He specializes in the criminal prosecution of white collar crime -- securities violations, embezzlement, theft, and forgery where frequently the victims are people who have invested their money with loan brokers or investment advisors. Often, these victims are elderly and retired, and the loss of their money has presented serious consequences to them.

Mr. Finney also has extensive experience in a broad range of consumer issues -- charitiable solicitations, auto purchases and repairs, health club issues, bait and switch, false advertising, unfair competition, landlord/tenant issues, and the small claims court. Mr. Finney works closely with the American Association of Retired Persons on issues confronting older persons.

He has worked in radio for over twenty years and was the Director of News and Informational Programming at public radio station KQED-FM in San Francisco, CA from 1981 - 1984. In 1984, Mr. Finney began producing and hosting "Your Legal Rights" at KQED-FM and moved the program to KALW-FM in San Francisco, CA in 1986. KALW-FM is also a public radio station and is owned by the San Francisco School District. The program is designed to educate the public about their legal rights and consumer rights. The program emphasized prevention and self-help. Over 800 programs have been produced in the last sixteen years and the program is carried on seven stations.

Because of his work on "Your Legal Rights", in 1994, Mr. Finney was awarded the C. Rick Chamberlin Award by the California Board of Specialization of the State Bar of California for presenting programs to improve public awareness of the law. Funders of the program are The Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law Section of the State Bar of California; the Family Law Section of the State Bar of California; the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of California; the Lawyer Referral Service of the Bar Association of San Francisco; the California Applicants' Attorneys Association; the San Mateo County Bar Association; the American Association of Retired Persons; and the California Board of Specialization of the State Bar of California.
